What are Thermal Imaging Cameras?
A thermal imaging camera is a handheld instrument with a visual display to identify and illustrate changes in heat energy. They have a heat sensor joined to a special lens that works in tandem with image-capture technologies. This characteristic can allow users to catch areas that have excessive temperatures or those with wasted heat energy. An example of the latter is thermal insulation gaps in a building.
When you point these cameras to an area, the sensors on these cameras will enable you to see the otherwise invisible infrared spectrum. On the colour thermographic display of a thermal imaging camera, distinct temperatures show up differently. Warmer regions will come up as oranges, reds and yellows. The cooler areas will generally be blue or purple. Room temperature often shows up as green.
