Live fire training in Class A container systems

All live fire training is inherently dangerous. After two Swedish firefighters lost their lives to a flashover in 1986, the Swedish government asked the country’s Rescue Service to develop a full burn behaviour program that included flashover training. The intent of the program was to help firefighters recognize extreme fire behaviour and avoid injuries and death.

Dräger brought this live fire training program to North America
in 1990 and has delivered hundreds of systems in the US and
Canada to fire departments, fire academies, airports, military
agencies, and more. Dräger’s Swede Survival Systems and Dräger certified instructional training programs have been designed and delivered in accordance with training methods developed by the Swedish Rescue Services Agency through the Swedish Rescue Training Center (SRTC).

It is a multiple container-based Class A burn structure allowing for real fire scenarios in a cost-effective design. Included with each structure is a comprehensive train-the-trainer course with qualified, experienced instructors.

PHASE 3: Backdraft

Demonstrates the warning signs of backdraft and the intensity of an explosion. If warning signs go unnoticed, a firefighter can cause a backdraft by opening a door or breaking a window to reach a compartment fire. For exterior observation only, the Phase 3 is a laboratory that gives trainees the opportunity to learn about the conditions that can cause or otherwise occur
during a backdraft condition.

PHASE 6: Interior Hallway

Simulates a hotel or apartment building fire with an 80-foot central hallway and 20-foot containers as burn chambers. This system lets you train for fire attacks, smoke conditions, search and rescue, and hose handling through the main corridor. Various scenarios available due to the length of the central hallway and the number of potential
burn chambers.

Dräger’s Mobile Live Fire Training Unit is a 53-foot, multi-purpose mobile live fire training unit designed for versatility and ease of transport. It is equipped with an onboard generator and a supply of gas cylinders. A second story can be hydraulically raised during operation and lowered for transport.

When in use, firefighters are confronted with real flames, extreme heat, high humidity, severely restricted visibility and thick smoke during their training. This allows them to train for a realistic emergency. In spite of the extreme heat, the Mobile Live Fire Training Unit is designed with safety in mind during training. Redundant safety devices for gas and temperature monitoring in accordance with relevant NFPA and CSA codes and guidelines control the conditions in the burn areas. If defined limits are exceeded or the emergency cut-off switch is operated, the system is automatically switched off and forced ventilation is activated.

Live Fire Extinguisher Training

Fire Safety Plan Requirements in Canada, clearly point out the importance of fire extinguisher training. The TUTOR Live Fire Extinguisher Training System by Dräger Safety allows training on the proper use of fire extinguishers in a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly manner. It provides two available flame sizes for varying training scenarios and has multiple props available for a variety of training scenarios.

Each TUTOR fire extinguisher trainer is equipped with a tethered remote control and an emergency cut-off switch. All TUTOR units are individually inspected and tested. Dräger’s TUTOR fire extinguisher training equipment provides for an excellent set-up to safely practice the use of manual fire extinguishers. The task is to extinguish gas-fired flames in a fire pan.

Live Fire Training System

The Dräger System 64 is designed to fit inside a truck bed or small trailer and can be set up in under 30 minutes. This flexible and portable exterior live fire trainer lets you conduct training scenarios virtually anywhere. With a 6 x 4 foot liquid propane fueled burn pan, 2-stage fires, and a variety of interchangeable props, the System 64 can address many fire training scenarios in a mobile configuration.
